Visiting IRRI

Do I need to schedule a visit?

Yes. Advance notice of four weeks is required to visit IRRI-HQ. We will do our best to accommodate your request.

How do I schedule a visit to IRRI?

We encourage you to submit your visit request by filling-out the visit request form, as soon as you can.

Who are the visits for?

These types of visits are usually for the following stakeholders:
    • Development and non-governmental organizations
    • Policy makers and other government representatives
    • Diplomatic missions
    • National agricultural research and extension system (NARES) professionals
    • Private sector representatives

How much does a visit cost?

There are some costs associated with a tour or visit, which might include:
    • The use of audio-video equipment, depending on the size and requirements of the group
    • Optional activities like the Rice Planting Activity (available by request)
    • Accommodations and transportation services
    • Rental of venues

How large can a visitor delegation be?

Depending on the purpose of the requested session, we can accommodate as many as 100 visitors at a time. If your group is larger than 100 people, we recommend a format that consists of an orientation talk followed by a self-guided visit.

Is visiting the IRRI Genebank part of the educational tour?

Yes, but a visit to the IRRI Genebank is only available to small groups of a maximum of 20 people.

What is required when I schedule a visit?

    • Completed Visit Booking Form
    • For international visitors, additional supporting documents (i.e. request letter for visa purposes) may be required

Do I need to schedule a visit?

Yes. We encourage you to submit your tour request by filling out the tour booking form as soon as you can. Requests for visits fill up quickly and a limited number of spaces are available. Visits are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Kindly schedule your visit at least 15 working days in advance. Also, be advised that to ensure a meaningful visit, we are no longer accommodating walk-in visitors.

How long are the visits?

Educational visits lasts for about 90 minutes per session. Please be in IRRI at least 30 minutes before the scheduled visit.

What time can I schedule a visit?

Visits can be scheduled every Tuesday and Wednesday for the following sessions:

Morning : 9:00 - 10:30 AM

PM: 2:00- 3:30 PM

What can I expect to experience in a visit?

An educational visit includes a viewing of the IRRI orientation video, a guided tour, as well as time for independent exploration. Depending on the size of the group, a visit to the IRRI Genebank can also be offered. There can also be an opportunity for a Rice Planting Activity. Getting to and from IRRI

How do I go to IRRI?

Below is a map to show you how to get to IRRI if you're bringing your own transportation.

How far is Los Banos from the NAIA Airport?

We recommend that participants leave Los Baños for Manila at least four hours before departure time.

Can IRRI provide for accommodation of the visitors?

Yes, IRRI can help arrange this. However, visitors are expected to pay for the cost of providing this service. Accommodation payments may be made at the Guesthouse or with the Residence Officer if staying in the Dormitories on campus. Payment may be made via credit card only at the Guesthouse, Suites, and Guestrooms.

Does IRRI arrange for transportation from NAIA to IRRI, Los Baños, and back and within IRRI/Los Baños?

Yes, IRRI can provide this service.  However, visitors are expected to pay to recover our own costs. Estimated costs are:

  • Transport from NAIA Airport to IRRI headquarters 
    • Car US$80 (one-way), 
    • Van US$80 (one-way), 
    • Coaster US$110 (one-way)

  • Los Baños trip
    • Car/van - US$59; 
    • Coaster - US$66

How do I pay?

Payment for transport may be made at through The IRRI Cashier’s Office located at FF Hill Building inside IRRI campus. It is open from Monday to Friday from 9AM to 3PM.

Is a visa required to visit the Philippines?

Yes. IRRI- HQ is located in the Philippines and country policy applies.

Some gentle reminders: 
  • When travelling to IRRI HQ, you need a valid passport (at least 6 months validity) with Philippine visa stamped on it. 
  • While nationals from numerous countries are allowed to enter the Philippines visa-free, please check with the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs for the visa requirements of your country of origin.
  • Attach your old passport, if any, to show your past travel(s) abroad.

  • Award or invitation letter from IRRI
  • Certificate of employment (particularly if this is your first travel abroad)

Do you have general recommendations for travelers to the Philippines?

Please be advised to have a complete routine immunization program as required by the country of destination.
